Chat with Your Own FileMaker Data

FileMaker 2025 gave developers some fantastic new features for integrating AI into FileMaker apps. It opened the door to powerful AI experiences, yet most developers (including us) face the challenge of building chat infrastructure from scratch before delivering actual value.

So we built ProofChat.

ProofChat is a module you add to your FileMaker apps that lets users chat directly with their data. You can use natural language to ask questions, summarize records, generate insights, even update data — all from inside your FileMaker app.

It’s a conversational interface for the data you already know and manage.

Why We Built ProofChat

A great chat UI is essential infrastructure, but not the destination.

It’s the path.

Every time we rebuild a chat interface to answer a regularly timed question such as “Who are my top customers this month?”, we solve the same problem again. Commercial AI chat tools like ChatGPT and Claude weren’t designed for integrations with custom business apps or local data.

ProofChat handles the hard stuff:

  • Connects to your FileMaker schema and context automatically.
  • Uses your own API keys so you stay in control of costs and privacy.
  • Supports different models for different purposes — for example, one tuned for fast Q&A and another for analytical summaries.
  • Extendable with FileMaker scripts to create custom tools, like KPI dashboards, reporting assistants, or data entry helpers that confirm information before writing it back.

Our goal was to make AI practical, configurable, and native to the FileMaker world.

Get Started

You can be up and running in less than a morning. Find the full start-up guide here.

The Free Tier is production-ready and supports up to five users — ideal for small deployments, test environments, or just playing around.

See It in Action

Todd Geist introduced ProofChat live with Richard Carlton on FileMaker TV, showing real-time examples of how it behaves in production.

If you’re exploring how AI connects with deployment and DevOps, check out OttoFMS and MCP, two other tools we’re building that make modern FileMaker development easier.

On day 3, Todd and Richard go over MCP Servers and AI Interactions in FileMaker.

And check out their continuation on day 4.

If your team works with FileMaker, we think you’ll want to give it a try. Head to proofchat.ai, install the free version, and let us know what you build.

We’d love your feedback in the Ottomatic Community Forums — because the best ideas always come from people using this stuff in the real world.
